The latest in our ‘What Works’ seminar series was held at The Wellcome Collection in London on 24 April.

Geography matters, a lot

Attendees heard from Jon Boys, Senior Researcher at The Careers & Enterprise Company, on how the Company build pictures of the country to target resources where they are needed most. From the areas where social mobility is lowest, to those where young people are most disengaged from education and the ‘cold spot’ areas where young people are most in need of career support.

Does attainment at school drive success in work?

Guest speaker Bart Shaw, from education and youth ‘think and action tank’ LKMCo, explored the assumed links between educational attainment and social mobility later in life. Bart’s talk questions whether increased attainment in education leads to greater participation and earnings in the labour market.

Attend our next seminar

The third ‘What Works seminar will focus on what works in volunteering, work experience and workplace visits with talks from Jonathan Buzzeo of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research and from Joy Williams of the Institute of Employment Studies.
