In October 2018 the Secretary of State for Education, Damian Hinds MP, announced that a further 20 Careers Hubs would be created across England, building on the first wave of 20 Hubs announced in the Government’s Careers Strategy in December 2017. This second wave of Hubs will be backed by a further £2.5m of investment, and will enable the further roll out of the Careers Hubs model which is based on the successful pilot the successful pilot between the Gatsby Foundation and the North East Local Enterprise Partnership. Careers Hubs will have access to support and funding that will include a ‘Hub Lead’ to coordinate activity and build networks.

Interest in the first wave of Careers Hubs was high, with 30 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) across the country bidding to establish a Hub. We expect that many of the bids in wave 2 will be for new Hubs, but applications are also welcomed from existing Hubs who wish to expand the number of schools or colleges in their pilot. As in Wave 1 we expect LEPs to be key members of any Hub bid.

Wave 2 Hubs will be operational from September 2019 and will be funded to the end of the 2019/2020 academic year.
