Housebuilder Keepmoat Homes has announced a partnership which underlines its commitment to helping young people in Doncaster prepare for the world of work.

The Doncaster-based company has partnered with The Careers & Enterprise Company – a national organisation helping young people prepare for the world of work - to become a ‘Cornerstone Employer’ for Doncaster.

Cornerstone Employers commit to investing time and resources and working with other businesses, schools and colleges to inspire young people and give them direct experience of the world of work.

Keepmoat Homes will work with The Careers & Enterprise Company and the Doncaster Enterprise Adviser Network, a network of senior business volunteers in the area.

Together they will ensure that young people across Doncaster have access to meaningful engagement with employees from across the business and gain the vital work experience they need to help them make informed choices about their futures.

Cornerstone Employers act as champions to encourage new businesses in the area to get involved, as well as encouraging their own staff to become volunteer ‘Enterprise Advisers’. Enterprise Advisers are senior business volunteers who work closely with a local school or college to help develop a practical careers plan.

In becoming a Cornerstone Employer, Keepmoat joins a strong contingent of employers in the area including Wilmott Dixon and Lloyds Banking Group. All the Cornerstone Employers in the area are working to help deliver more than 90,000 encounters with employers for young people in the area by 2020.

Doncaster is one of the government’s 12 Opportunity Areas across England, designed to promote social mobility and open-up opportunities for young people.

Chris Penn Regional Managing Director at Keepmoat Homes, said:

At Keepmoat we look beyond the bricks and mortar of the houses we build and instead focus on creating better places for people to live and strong communities. As such we’re excited to become a Cornerstone Employer and increase the number of opportunities for young people to engage with our business, help them understand business workplaces and choose their future career.

Claudia Harris, CEO at The Careers & Enterprise Company, said:

“We are delighted that Keepmoat Homes has committed to become a Cornerstone Employer. Its commitment will help to prepare and inspire pupils across Doncaster for the world of work.

The research shows that engaging directly with employers is an absolutely vital part of a young person’s careers education. It provides the information and inspiration young people need to make informed choices about their futures.

We are very much looking forward to working with Keepmoat over the months ahead”.
