Little Heath School in Reading was visited by Minister of State for Employment and Member of Parliament for Reading West, Alok Sharma, who presented the school with an award to mark their achievements in implementing areas of the Careers Strategy, specifically for their focus and continual improvement.

Alok met with our CEO Claudia Harris, Head of Government Relations Sarah Yong, Enterprise Coordinator and headteacher of Little Heath School, David Ramsden. The meeting was a valuable opportunity for Alok to hear more about the work we do in bringing together schools, businesses, providers and the Local Enterprise Partnership to support young people across England.

The visit also allowed Alok to meet with A-Level politics students to discuss his career path and the changes that have occurred over its duration. The students were interested to discuss domestic and international political issues as well as Alok’s opinion on current affairs.

Alok Sharma MP said:

“I was delighted to visit Little Heath School and congratulate them on their focussed career strategy for their students. Speaking with the Careers and Enterprise Company provided a valuable insight into the work the organisation does to bring together schools and businesses, to motivate young students and instil them with the ambition to succeed. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting with Little Heath’s A Level politics students and hearing about their plans for the future, as well as answering their diverse range of questions on life in Westminster.”

Sarah Yong, Head of Government Relations at The Careers & Enterprise Company said:

“It was fantastic to visit Little Heath School to pay tribute to their energy and relentless focus on careers education to inspire and prepare their pupils for the world of work. It was also a wonderful opportunity to bring local MP and Employment Minister Alok Sharma along to experience first-hand the transformational effect of what’s happening in Little Heath, supported by our Enterprise Adviser network to do even more.”
