The Rt Hon The Lord Young of Graffham, whose vision is at the heart of the Enterprise Adviser Network, has announced that he is stepping down from The Careers & Enterprise Company Board. A founding board member, Lord Young has served for three years as our Deputy Chair.

Although he leaves the role in order to devote more time to his other business and government interests, we are delighted that Lord Young will continue to support us as our Enterprise Ambassador.

The former Small Business & Enterprise Adviser to the Prime Minister inspired the creation of our flagship Enterprise Adviser Network. In response to his own Enterprise for All Review (2014), looking at the relevance of enterprise across the education system, he set out to connect schools and colleges with the world of business.

Reflecting on a network that now incorporates all the Local Enterprise Partnerships in England, more than 2,000 mainstream secondary schools and colleges and businesses across the country, Lord Young said:

We have grown a network at rapid pace to make the all-important connection between employers and schools, to enable young people to be inspired and prepared for the world of work. I bow out from The Careers & Enterprise Company with enormous thanks to the many schools, colleges and businesses for making the network a roaring success, and with huge pride to be part of the company and the crucial work it does. I step down knowing the company is in safe hands.”

In thanking Lord Young for his huge contribution to the company and for his relentless commitment to putting young people at the heart of everything we do, Christine Hodgson, Chair of The Careers & Enterprise Company, said:

Working with Lord Young has been such a privilege. His vision and passion have guided us from Day 1 and I am delighted that we have succeeded in putting in place his vision of an Enterprise Network, putting employers in schools and helping to inspire young people and show them the relevance of education. I am so grateful for all Lord Young’s wisdom and support for the company, and for me personally. I am thrilled that he has agreed to remain an Enterprise Ambassador for us.”
