North East LEP

Who is North East LEP?

The North East LEP is working to support all secondary schools and colleges to achieve the government’s Gatsby Benchmarks through their North East Ambition project and a partnership with NUSTEM.

As part of North East Ambition, they're also working with 70 primary schools from across the region in a two-year pilot project to build careers aspiration from an early age.

The aim of the pilot is to translate the original Good Career Guidance Benchmarks for use and implementation in primary settings, test the benchmarks in action and document the conditions, and support schools to make measurable and rapid progress towards achieving the Gatsby Benchmarks.

Who do they work with?

Mainly: Teachers

Types of schools: All mainstream schools

Year Groups: Years 1 - 6

How can they help?

Their Careers in Initial Teacher Education (CITE) project is designed as a feasibility study to test the impact of integrating a module of careers-related training into initial teacher training.

CRL principles followed by North East LEP:

  • Embedding into whole school approach and driven by SLT
  • Embedding into the curriculum
  • Involving employers and parents
  • Starting early
  • Open to all
  • Ensuring activities are personalised and relevant to the age group
